Clare
County Jail
The
Sheriff’s Office and jail renovation project has been a major undertaking
that will serve Clare County well into the future.
The
Clare County jail has been brought up to high standards.
We have been awarded the 100% compliance award 2002 through the present
time.
Inmate
fees are providing the funding for this project.
We expect to have it paid off in four years.

Lansing-
The Michigan Department of Correction (MDOC) announced recently that the Clare
County Sheriff’s Office has achieved compliance with the state’s rules on
jails and lockups.
Sheriff
Jeffery Goyt was presented with a certificate signed by DOC Director William
Overton and Jeff Baumann, administer of the MDOC’s Office of Audit, Internal
Affairs and Litigation. Baumann
is in charge of the unit in the MDOC, which inspects county jails for
compliance.
“Compliance
with the state’s jail rules is a major accomplishment and the citizens of
Clare County should be proud,” said State Corrections Director William
Overton, in announcing the compliance.
“It
means increased safety and security for citizens as well as for jail staff and
prisoners. Sheriff Goyt should be
congratulated for running a cost-efficient and humane jail,” Overton said.
At
the June 2004 Michigan Sheriff’s Conference Patricia Caruso, the new
director of Michigan Department of Corrections, once again presented Sheriff
Goyt with the 100% jail compliance award.
